Greetings Country Valley Farm Members,
This is week 19 of the season, and the first share in October. For our 30-week members, we continue to distribute shares until the last week of Autumn (December 18th).
For folks that signed up for less than 30 weeks, and want to extend their share, we welcome extensions and can coordinate with you if you are interested in doing so.
If you currently pick up your share but would like to add home delivery, we can do that also. Just let Adam know.
We had our first frost of the season this morning. It was mild and spotty and warmed up as soon as the sun came up. We will include a Farm update next week.
This week’s small shares contain the following items:
- Red leaf and green romaine lettuce – 1 head of each from our farm
- Garlic – 3 bulbs from our farm
- Roma plummy tomatoes – 1 quart from Cinzori Farm
- Summer squash medley – 1 quart from Cinzori Farm
- Cucumbers – 3 slicers from Cinzori Farm
- Red bell peppers – 2 from Cinzori Farm
- Medium shares will receive extra tomatoes, squash and bell peppers
- Large shares will packed as 2 small shares.
Some preparation and cooking tips:
- Red leaf and green romaine lettuce – we hope everyone is enjoying the lettuce. It is different than store bought lettuce, more tender and much fresher, with a more complex flavor.
- Garlic – this is our famous Country Valley Hard Neck Garlic. In addition to the culinary benefits, garlic is known to have lots of health promoting properties. We encourage folks to use garlic liberally.
- Roma plummy tomatoes – these are an old variety of roma tomato that is smaller sized and has an excellent flavor and texture. Great for cooking or making sauce, also wonderful raw in a salad or on a sandwich.
- Summer squash medley – a mix of many varieties of summer squash. This will be the last summer squash of the season for the shares. Slice them up and roast in the oven for a tasty fall treat (and warm up the house a little at the same time).
- Cucumbers – this will be the last week of cucumbers in the shares. It has been a great year for cucumbers.
- Red bell peppers – great in a salad, they also pair well with summer squash and would be excellent roasted in the oven.

That’s all for now. Looking forward to seeing everyone soon.
