Greetings Country Valley Farm CSA Members,
We hope that everyone is enjoying the cool nights and sunny days along with the fresh produce. It continues to amaze us how different food that is grown locally, with care and harvested fresh, is compared to the veggies we eat most of the winter.
Looking ahead – The fall radishes are doing really well. We will start with daikon next week, and then watermelon radishes and then black Spanish radish. The tatsoi is sizing up and will be ready in a few weeks. The fall lettuces and cabbages are growing very slowly, we hope to start harvesting lettuce in a few weeks but are unsure if the cabbage will actually make heads – Cinzori Farms grows plenty of cabbage so we have that to fall back on as needed. The carrots had very poor germination and the row is almost empty. The beets are growing slowly but there is a good stand, so we believe they will be harvestable eventually. The turnips are looking good and will rotate in with the fall radishes.
This week’s shares include the following (Cooking Tips posted separately):
· Tulsi Holy Basil (1 bunch) from our farm that was listed as included last week but was not harvested due to rain
