Greetings Country Valley Farm CSA Members,
We finally got our first hard freeze. It came before we had a real frost even. Sunday morning we had ice in the field until 11am. We were prepared and it was strangely welcome.
We are working hard to get our garlic field ready for planting. After planting, we hoe soil over the garlic, then add compost and organic amendments, and cover with the leaves from our massive maple trees. Some years the leaves fall before the garlic is planted, which makes for some extra maneuvering and staging of the leaves – this year it seems the timing will be perfect for the garlic to be in the ground and ready for their maple leaf cover as the bulk of the leaves fall.
This week’s shares include the following (Cooking Tips posted separately):
· Watermelon Radish (1 pint) from our farm
· Lettuce Mix (1 small bag) from our farm
· Bean Mix (1 pint) from our farm
· Garlic, CVF variety (3 medium bulbs) from our farm
· Tatsoi Rosettes aka “the new spinach” (1 big bag) from our farm
· Brussels Sprouts (1 pint) from Cinzori Farm
· Sweet Potatoes (1 pint) from Cinzori Farm
· Red Cabbage (1 head) from Cinzori Farm
· Medium shares will receive extra tatsoi, a bunch of celery, a green cabbage, and a bunch of red/purple curly kale
Thank you for your ongoing support and for sharing the joy of the community supported agriculture membership – it makes a big difference in our world and is deeply acknowledged.
Warm Regards,
Adam and the Country Valley Farm Team
