Hi Everyone,
We just finished packing the shares for tomorrow’s CSA distribution, 30 week share members will receive a share tomorrow. 26-week shares begin next week May 15th, and 20-week shares begin May 29th. For this week we will be home delivering the shares rather than having members pick up their boxes. Deliveries tomorrow will be between 3 and 5 pm, about the same time as you received them last week.
This week’s small box shares contain the following items – cooking tips will be shared in a separate post titled “Cooking Tips — May 07, 2021”
· Green Garlic (1 dozen) – from our farm
· Leeks (8) – from our farm * This is the last of the leeks until the Fall
· Mullein (1 bag) – from our farm
· Sunflower Sprouts (1 pkg) – from Gardenworks of Ann Arbor
· Spinach (1 bag) – from Cinzori Farms of Ceresco
· Curly Green Kale Greens (1 bunch) – from Cinzori Farms of Ceresco
· Asparagus (1 bunch) – from Cinzori Farms of Ceresco
· Fuji Apples (4 apples) – from Plymouth Orchards of Plymouth
Medium boxes contain an extra dozen Green Garlic, extra 8 Leeks, extra bunch of asparagus.
This was a great week for planting here in Ann Arbor. The cool weather and occasional rains are perfect for young transplants. We planted a large area in asparagus, as well as an allium bed containing sweet onions, yellow onions, red onions, green onions, and leeks. We also planted a brassica bed with lacinato kale, green curly kale, red curly kale, red mustard greens, collard greens and kohlrabi.
Did you know that Michigan is second in the nation for asparagus production, however, there is very little organic asparagus being grown in our state still? Here is a link that shares some other asparagus facts and recipes – http://www.michiganasparagus.org/#about
If you don’t remember what membership duration you signed up for, want to add weeks, make any adjustments, or have any questions at all, please feel free to reach out to us.
Warm Regards,
