Hi Everyone,

The location change is permanent for this year: We will be doing CSA pickups in the back lot for the rest of this year.  It is a bit cooler and shady back there, and we won’t have to move locations when the building has other events going on.  Members pick up shares on Saturdays between 2:30 and 5:30 at Genesis of Ann Arbor (Temple Beth Emeth/St Clare’s Episcopal Church) 2309 Packard Ann Arbor, MI.  We are looking forward to seeing everybody.

This week’s shares include the following (Cooking Tips and Recipes posted separately):

·         Genovese Basil (1 bunch) from our farm

·         Lemon Basil (1 bunch) from our farm

·         Green Onions (1 big bunch) from our farm

·         Garlic bulbs, Montana Giant variety (6 small bulbs) from our farm

·         Collard Greens (1 bunch) from our farm

·         Cabbage, Green (1 head) – from Cinzori Farm of Ceresco

·         Yellow and Green Summer Squash mix – 1 quart from Cinzori Farm of Ceresco

·         Cucumbers – (1 bag) from Cinzori Farm of Ceresco

Medium shares will receive an extra head of green cabbage, extra garlic, and extra collard greens

Garlic Update:  We have completed the harvest of about 80% of our garlic crop.  We are very thankful, it looks to be our best garlic year yet.  Our primary variety (that we call Country Valley Hard Neck) has a very good size, but the trial varieties that we planted are generally small.  As we are rotating through different varieties each week, we will include bulbs from our primary variety every other week and one of the trial varieties on the other weeks – to keep it fun.

There are 2 main types of garlic that all the hundreds of garlic varieties fall into, hard neck and soft neck.  We grow only hard neck garlic on our farm because we think it is exceptionally better and part of the greatness of being in Michigan.  Check out this link if you want to learn more- What’s the Difference Between Softneck Garlic & Hardneck Garlic? | Organic Gardening Blog – Grow Organic

Thank you for your ongoing support and for sharing the joy of the community-supported agriculture membership – it makes a big difference in our world and is deeply acknowledged.

Warm Regards,

Adam and the Country Valley Farm Team
