Greetings Country Valley Farm CSA Members,

Happy Autumn Equinox!  We certainly experienced a rapid seasonal shift in weather the last few days.  As of the writing of this newsletter we have received over 5 inches of rain in less than 2 days and it is still drizzling.  For perspective, many months we receive only 3-4 inches of rain across a 30 day span.  We also had some extreme high winds.  We have not fully assessed the damage, but know that there will be some losses.  At the same time, this is what Mother Nature sent us and we know it is helpful for the overall water supply, rivers and creeks, etc.

The summer veggies are coming to an end, cucumbers from Cinzori Farm are done for the season as one example.  We decided to let the leeks go one more week before we start harvesting, and will include those next week with more potatoes.

Members pick up shares on Saturdays between 2:30 and 5:30 at Genesis of Ann Arbor (Temple Beth Emeth/St Clare’s Episcopal Church) 2309 Packard Ann Arbor, MI – in the backlot.  We are looking forward to seeing everybody.

This week’s shares include the following (Cooking Tips attached separately):

·         Tulsi Holy Basil (1 bunch) from our farm

·         Green and Purple String Beans (1 mixed quart) from our farm

·         Garlic bulbs, Leningrad Variety (6 small bulbs) from our farm

·         Red Grape or Mixed Cherry Tomatoes  (1 pint) from Cinzori Farm

·         Yellow and Orange Bulls Horn Sweet Peppers (1 quart) from Cinzori Farm

·         Red Cherry Hot Peppers (a few) from Cinzori Farm

v  Medium shares will receive an extra 2 delicata squash, a pint of petite sweet onions, extra quart of mixed beans AND a bunch of lacinato (dino) kale that was not included last week ?

Thank you for your ongoing support and for sharing the joy of the community supported agriculture membership – it makes a big difference in our world and is deeply acknowledged.

Warm Regards,

Adam and the Country Valley Farm Team
