Hi Everyone,
We hope everyone is enjoying the late summer weather. The plants are appreciating the warm
days and sunshine. We are thinking ahead of the fall crops coming into season and the length of
the season; and also of how we want the summer veggies to be available as long as possible…
We will begin to include hard squashes like delicata, acorn, butternut, sugar pie pumpkins, etc.
starting next week. Broccoli, cauliflower, cabbages will be in the shares soon. Leeks will be in
the shares next week. Tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, summer squashes and other warm
weather veggies will continue to be in the shares as long as possible.
A bit about the items listed for each week’s shares: We estimate how much produce actually is
needed to fill each member’s share, each week. Some of the items we harvest or purchase by the
each – like 1 bulb of garlic, or 1 package of grape tomatoes. Many of the items we harvest or
purchase by the bushel and do the math. There may be times where you receive less or more
than is listed. We work to ensure that you receive more, or that the total value of that week’s box
is reasonable and worthy. There will be occasional times when we end up giving less of an item
than we planned, in those cases we rely on the overall box still being a real good value. Also,
there are instances of us ordering an item and receiving a different item – like last week we
thought we were getting red baby bell peppers and jumbo cucumbers, and we got mixed color
baby bell peppers and small cucumbers. We believe that transparency in the food supply chain
is very important, we thought the above details may be helpful.
Members pick up shares on Saturdays between 2:30 and 5:30 at Genesis of Ann Arbor (Temple
Beth Emeth/St Clare’s Episcopal Church) 2309 Packard Ann Arbor, MI – in the backlot. We are
looking forward to seeing everybody.
