Hi Everyone,
This week’s tips include a few standard preparation tips. It is encouraged to check your favorite
cookbooks or resources or check out some new cookbooks or resources, lots of inspiration to be
found and help improve the local and seasonal food experience week in and week out. A recipe
using items from this week’s share is below
We recommend washing all produce just before use, always.
• Garlic Scapes – chop into 1-2 inch pieces
• Fresh Sage – a great seasoning, also nice as tea; the bunch will make about 1 quart of tea
or provide enough seasoning for a large entrée or two.
• Kale – great for breakfast, lunch or dinner, raw, steamed, well-cooked, anyway you like it
• Broccoli – we’ve been roasting our broccoli as it can be well cooked and still firm
• Sugar Snap Peas – while these are great in a stir fry, they are so good as a raw snack,
being local and fresh
• Green Onions – we typically cook green onions with our kale but also nice added to a stir
fry or chopped raw and added atop a hot entree
• Asparagus – this is the last week of asparagus for the year…
• Sunflower Sprouts – we hope folks are getting used to including the sprouts in a regular
menu. As varieties of other veggies are coming available with the progression of the
season, we are planning on making the sprouts be an every other week thing for awhile.
Country Valley Farm Summer Solstice Stir-fry Recipe
Wash and chop 1⁄2 cup garlic scapes, 2 cups broccoli, 1⁄2 cup sugar snap peas, and about half a

bunch of fresh sage. Heat a wok or cast iron pan (any pan can work but these are best for stir-
frying) with oil of choice (we like coconut oil or sunflower oil for this), just enough oil to coat

the pan but not so you are actually soaking the veggies in oil. As soon as the oil is hot, add the
ingredients and a tablespoon or two of soy sauce. Stir lightly every minute or so, remove from
heat after 3-7 minutes (based on how you like it). Serve with rice or noodles. You can add
protein to this dish by including a can of beans (pinto or cannellini go great with this), as well as
meat or meat substitute of choice. It may be best to cook the meat or substitute separately first
and then add to the stir-fry at the end to ensure it is cooked through and also to achieve the
texture you desire.
