Hi Everyone,

As we are 1 week away from the beginning of September, it is nice to reflect on the Summer and look ahead to Autumn.  We will be transplanting many varieties of lettuce plants and red cabbage next week.  They should begin to be ready about the end of September, we hope to have lettuce through November.  The fall crops that we direct-seeded after the garlic harvest are really happy with the weather we’ve been having – we will have baby turnip, pak choi and radish greens starting next week.

We are thankful that we will have tomatoes in this week’s shares – red grape tomatoes are the first variety ready.  We will rotate tomato varieties in the shares weekly..

Some thoughts on trying to include items that everyone enjoys:  Everyone is different (thank goodness) and has different food preferences.  Are there items that you would like to see more of?  Items that you don’t really want to receive?  Items that you may want a larger portion of for preserving or other reasons?  Please let us know.  We can’t customize boxes completely, but we welcome more feedback and will do our best to serve everyone.  There will likely be items that you receive that you decide to share with neighbors/friends/family and that is a wonderful thing also.  We are considering offering a pop-up market at CSA distribution for folks to purchase additional items.  We are also thinking about a process for members to trade out some items for other items.  Your feedback will help us form a system for doing these kind of things in a good way.

A bit about our mission – It is our intention to provide healthy, tasty, certified organic produce, of top quality, at a reasonable price for our community.  Keeping our mission and intentions front of mind is what guides our business and directs the creation of the CSA boxes each week.  We know there are a lot of farms out there, as well as many other places to obtain produce.  We value your time and monetary investment and are honored you have selected us as your CSA provider.  We try to keep these newsletters brief but wanted to share a little on this to help affirm some of the good vibes and to express our gratitude for each of our CSA members.

Members pick up shares on Saturdays between 2:30 and 5:30 at Genesis of Ann Arbor (Temple Beth Emeth/St Clare’s Episcopal Church) 2309 Packard Ann Arbor, MI – in the backlot.  We are looking forward to seeing everybody.
