We hope everyone is enjoying the April rains and spring storms. We sure are!
We installed low-pressure sprinklers early this week in the garlic and asparagus beds, and the plants loved the water combined with the warm (near-record high) April temperatures. That helped prime the soil to receive the rains that came later in the week. We put a lot of focus on building organic matter in our soil, and it is paying off. One sure sign of good soil health is the ability to hold water in a balanced way – and we can see that as there is no pooling or erosion in our fields.
More daffodils are blooming, and the hyacinths are up with their amazing fragrant flowers. The overwintered leeks and onions are looking great. The chives, thyme, and peppermint are happily returning, and the garlic is really growing good now. We keep peaking in the asparagus rows but don’t see any spears up just yet. The blackberries and raspberries that we planted last year are showing new growth and leaves too.
We are still wheelbarrowing lots of wood chips and getting the onions and greens beds ready for planting.
The end of April and beginning of May will be a major planting time for us, and we are looking forward to that.
As we are planning for when CSA share pickups will begin; we feel like we are on track for the 30 week shares to begin the first weekend in May, for the 26 week shares to begin mid-May, and the 20 week shares to begin late-May to early June. We will be sure to include firm dates as we get closer. If you don’t remember what membership duration you signed up for, or want to add weeks, or make any adjustments, please feel free to reach out to us.
We hope everyone has a great week!
Warm Regards,
